This fat cat loves the holidays.

I'm talking about myself but take a look at one of my favorite Halloween specials from when I was a little trick or treater. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 h/t to Astro29 for posting these videos

Rehabilitation on Reformation Sunday

<<--See also: " Communion " I haven’t been going to church much lately. I have been avoiding church ever since my dad said that he was embarrassed that I would stay behind when the congregation would go up for communion. Along with my parents, my grandmother and aunt also fear for my salvation. While I was at the family farm yesterday, Grandma asked me if I would come to the special service (Reformation Sunday) which was held this evening. I couldn’t say no to her and I have to admit, I have been missing church. It was a combined service that brought in neighboring congregations. In all my time being there, I’ve only seen combined services with our sister congregations in Cass and Buchanan. This time, however, we pulled in members from all over the county. Ironically, the service reminded me of a Catholic mass considering the stepped up pomp and ceremony. Luckily, I didn’t receive any inquiries as to why I haven’t been attending church. I think that my presence

Yes or No for a Constitutional Amendment

Sure, lawn signs for candidates are all over the place but I don’t recall seeing ones for the ballot proposals here in Michigan. On the corner near where I live there is a sign for a yes vote on Proposition 2. This election there will be two state-wide proposals. Proposal 1 concerns the legalization of marijuana for medical use. Proposal 2 would relax the ban on embryonic stem cell research. I will be voting no on Proposal 1. First, I’m not convinced in the superiority of medical marijuana over other alternative treatments. Second this is an ill-conceived plan because it does not adequately design a system from legal production to legal permission to legal use. Finally, this does not provide adequate protections for users but, more importantly, for medical personnel and “licensed” producers since this would be in contradiction to federal laws which prohibit cannabis. What I really wanted to bring up was Proposal 2 because on my way home today from the family farm, I was amused b

America

Last night I watched The West Side Story . The last time I saw that, I think was in fifth or sixth grade music class. America still remains my most favorite part of that musical. See also: " Do they make movies like this anymore? " h/t to krissit13 for posting this video

Time for Dress Up!

Justin and Carrie's party is just over a week away and I had held off buying a costume until yesterday. The theme for this year's party is "Celebrities on the Red Carpet." The closest thing to a celebrity that I thought I could dress up as was fat Elvis. If dressed up as Elvis, people are going to ask me to do an imitation and that I can't do. I like history so I was agonizing over the costumes at Fun F/X. If I had the body, I would have shelled out almost $70 for a Spartan costume. There was also some higher quality costumes for just under $100 that I seriously considered wasting my money on: Napoleon and Robin Hood. With the election coming up shortly, I also had an opportunity to buy some politician masks. Of course, there were masks for Senators McCain and Obama but there were also ones for Hillary Clinton, George W. Bush, and almost every liberal's most feared bogeyman--Ronald Reagan. $20 bucks for a mask and wear that with a suit I already own, an

Chocolate Season

I'm normally not big on chocolate but as Halloween closes in and those mini candy bars go on sale... whoa man, watch out!

Saturday Sci-fi Geekery

I really wish that Stargate SG-1 could have gone on for more seasons. I will admit that initially I was cool with the idea of new characters like Jonas and then Col. Mitchell and Vala. Well—not really Vala. I liked her from the get go. But when it was not renewed, I was sad because I still liked that show better than Stargate Atlantis (which fraked it up majorly for me when they got rid of Doctors Beckett and Weir). SG-1’s end left the Ori story arc still unresolved although it was announced that this would be wrapped up in a movie. I had hoped that, eventually, Stargate: The Ark of Truth would be shown the Sci-Fi Channel because I didn’t want to pay for a DVD copy of the movie. If I had that, then I’d want to buy season DVDs to accompany it! If Sci-Fi did broadcast it, I missed it. I broke down yesterday and bought the dang thing because I found it in the bargain bin at Walmart. My reaction to it was fairly positive. I wasn’t expecting a movie in the grand Hollywood style. I

How does that work?

I want to be a Crackberry addict!

<<--See also: “Glimmering Upgrade” and “It’s Here” Oh why couldn’t I have waited six more months! It’s weird but it’s actually due to the iPhone (or really the iPod) that has gotten me interested in smart phones. I’ve had my iPod Touch for over a year now and I love it. I love it so much that if AT&T had more bars in my area, I would have gotten the 3G when it was released. Now I really want the new Blackberry Storm which, to me, is the iPhone killer. It will be available next month with Verizon. It’s already been released in the UK with Vodafone (which has a substantial ownership in Verizon) so that’s where I believe that this vid is coming from. Earlier this summer, I bought the LG Glimmer. I am largely satisfied with it. It is just as good as my Motorola E815 which proceeded it. I did modify my plan and signed up for web access. It costs me an extra $5.99 per month. I was itching to have access to my email while I was at work (checking it during my breaks of cou

Blah Blog

I need to bitch about my work. Please don’t get me wrong, I like my job but lately I feel like I’ve been a victim of my own success. For the past few months I have basically been in two positions. For three weeks out of the month, I can manage both but when the end of the month comes, all hell breaks loose and I end up staying overhours to catch up on work. Well this month, it hasn’t ended because I’m now being asked to cover three positions. I’m trying to pawn off as much of my simple work as I can but with vacations, and midterms happening, I’m running out of backup. This transition to a new building has been quite a pain. I am looking forward to early November because I will be taking a short trip to San Diego to see my friends Kraig and Stacey. I got a pretty decent deal on a flight and after being stuck in the tri-state area for the past three years or so, I’m itching to do some long distance traveling. I’d write more but I’ve got to get to work.

Minor Failures for a Personal Win

Earlier this week, I was invited to go to Ann Arbor by Karl with plans to go to the gay bar. I was excited and a bit afraid as I usually am in these situations. Not that really has any worth since I’ve only been to a gay bar only twice before. But I decided to go because it was an opportunity that I don’t get around here seeing how none of my friends seem comfortable coming with me to the bar and I sure as hell am not going to do it alone. I just came back from there and I had a great time. But this post is about all the little things that went wrong. The first thing that threatened my trip was that on Thursday night, I locked my key in the car at Wal-mart. Not a terribly big thing since there was spare that was eventually found and I did not have to spend money breaking into my own car. One big negative was that I was going to Ann Arbor—which is like going into the lion’s den. It’s even more dangerous for my car which is plastered in Michigan State stuff. Not only that, but I’d

Every now and then we get to handle some pretty neat things that come through our dock doors.
