Iraqi Elections
Of topic for a second. I was watching the History Channel and it was about D-day. Now I got to thinking: Could the U.S. ever fight another war like WWII? Definitely not. We get squeamish about a few thousand soldiers dying. We get outraged when civilians die. Well, on D-day we lost thousands of people in hours and kept throwing more people into the meat grinder knowing that they too were going to get killed. Then the carpet bombing of German cities, knowing that civilians were going to die. Let's face it, Americans don't have the stomach for it any more. It certainly makes me glad, though, that we have the technology to do what we do.
And back... Although, opposition parties to the governments in the coalition are adopting a "wait and see" attitude, I think everyone should be celebrating. How can you minimize this important event? Granted, there is a point to saying that Iraq is not a democracy. But at least this is the platform on which Iraq can get there. When two elections have taken place and a government party has turned over power, I think I will be fully satisfied with what the U.S. has done for the country.

Sen. E. Bayh
Anyways, Sen. Bayh really dissapointed me when he voted nay to confirm Dr. Rice to Secretary of State. He said, "We have been the authors of much of our own misery and as a result of that I cannot find it in my heart or in my mind to vote for a promotion of Dr. Rice." What kind of bull shit is that? Has anyone listened to his views on the war? Has anyone looked at his voting record. By God, I'm suprised as hell, that he's not really a covert Republican. This whole confirmation has just been an opportunity for Democrat grandstanding... no strike that-- Bitching about the President's policies. Policies that Sen. Bayh seemed to be supporting. So it makes me wonder, what is with the switch now?
Shame on you Sen. Bayh.
Damn FIPs

Battlestar Galactica

(c) Sci-fi.com

After waiting for a year and hoping that they would go through with a series, the new Battlestar Galactica premiered in the
Unfortunately for US viewers, we have to wait a few months before we could see it. For some reason the
Sci-Fi chose to air two episodes together tonight. The first episode, “33” takes place about 5 days after escaping from the cylons. Since they made their escape, they were being followed. Every 33 minutes after a jump, the cylons would show up and attack. Imagine having to run around a track once every 33 minutes for 5 days straight. In the second episode, “Water,” a series of explosions causes Galactica to loose most of their water reserves.
I don’t know if this was done on purpose, but “33” seemed to have some kind of in-joke regarding the original BSG. Did anyone else notice that they used footage from the mini-series? Images of the cylon fighters launching from the base stars, the combat landings, and the missile trails were clearly lifted from the mini series. Was this an acknowledgement of the original BSG continually using the same fx shots?
The side story regarding Helo on Caprica is pretty interesting. I like it for now, although I’m not sure what they are going to do with it in the future. It at least shows that humanity on the twelve colonies is not completely wiped out. There, he with Boomer #2 and I am interested to see what plans the cylons have for him.

An Update On My Job Search
I have signed up with the Michigan Talent Bank. Searching on Monstertrak hasn't been too fruitfull although I did see an intersting opening for a court clerk in Grand Rapids. Unfortunately the cut-off date is in two days. Soon, I will be going back to the library for more searching.
My tentative plans so far is too look for an intership with a law firm. If I can get that, my chances of securing a court clerkship is increased plus my value as a law school candidate improves as well. I'm going to try and research former Rep. LaSata's firm. Although LaSata probably isn't with the firm any more, I still might be able to capitalize on his name.

Watch this Movie?

Meet the Fockers

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to see the new theater in Niles. I can't say that I was impressed with it. Season came with me to see "Meet the Fockers." The first movie, "Meet the Parents" was pretty funny and I enjoyed it. I was looking forward to the sequel.
So, was this a good sequel? Well, I would have to say no. Season and I are in agreement: the first movie was better. But, I can't say that I was dissapointed with the movie on the the whole. Most of the gags and jokes were just rip offs from the first. There was nothing really original. Of course, there were the "Focker" jokes, but then there was dinner scene, and a sports game scene that were similar to the first.
If you are looking for something fresh and original, don't bother. If you are just expecting a continuation of the first movie, then this is just fine.
