David's Tangled Thoughts

Only a little longer for Harold Camping to be correct in his prediction that the rapture is going to occur. Of course, 1800hrs has come and passed for most of us on the planet including me. Personally, I spent the day watching a film about the Fountain of Youth, doing a little shopping, cleaning, napping, cooking, and making fun of the people that actually bought into Camping’s prediction. As I was reading some news articles earlier this evening, I also read some of the comments. There were a number of people who think that Camping should compensate the people who gave up their jobs, family, and money to spread his message. I find a hard time scraping any amount of sympathy for them. Well… I do feel sorry for the family members that were dragged through this mess. I guess I just can’t understand how someone who should be capable of rational thought can be duped like this. I got news on the 13th that a number of televisions shows had been axed. Three of them are shows that I am sorry to see go. Scratch that. I’m upset. I am really upset that V was cancelled, the last episode left everything pretty damn bleak. The two of the main characters ended up dead and the humans were falling under the control of Visitors. It’s not really a surprise that V was cancelled. It was a high cost show with mediocre ratings. Honestly, though, I think that it is the network, ABC , contributed to this program’s problems. The seasons were short, spaced too far apart, and scheduled broadcast times were shifted. All of those things do not help keep an audience, much less build one. Brothers & Sisters were another casualty of ABC’s axe. It was a bit of a surprise because I had already read an article that said that ABC was renewing it for a final season. I was surfing the net last night when word about Osama Bin Laden’s death started leaking out and that President Barak Obama was going to make an announcement. My twitter feed started going mad with updates. I immediately posted a tweet and facebook update on the matter and as the event when on I watched the television and the social updates roll in and it was interesting to see the reactions of my friends, followers, and those I follow. The first round of reactions came from my Air Force buddies and could be basically summed up with “America! Fuck yeah!” I was basically in with this group. Hearing about the death of Bin Laden is a psychological boost. It’s been almost a decade with this guy in the back of our minds and largely symbolic of the mess that we are in the middle east. The second round came from a couple sober friends that were quite disgusted in how a lot of us were reacting. They thought it was disgusting on how we were cheering over a person’s death.
