Biodiesel: Something to look forward to?

The vote on the biodiesel was successful and the bill is out of committee. The sponsor of the bill now has to make a decision as to how the bill will be moved. While I was in the committee room, I listened to the various opponents and proponents of the bill. Although no one said that they were opposed to biodiesel, they just did not want the legislature mandate its use. A mandate would force gas companies to buy new equipment—particularly in the area of storage. Also, if I remember right, prices would increase 2 cents per gallon. They also cited evidence that biodiesel has a higher cloud point meaning that it freezes or solidifies more easily. Also, biodiesel when used in older vehicles tends to clog up filters that will constantly need to be replaced. The aim of this piece of legislation is to position Michigan as a leading state when it comes to biodiesel. It is anticipated that in the long run, biodiesel will be considered for alternative fuels and tha

Attracting a Vote

Today, I realized the important of the vote. You think I'm talking about the Presidential election right? Wrong! Now I'm not trying to deminish the importance of that vote. But have we considered the more common votes that actually affect specific aspects of our lives? A biodiesel bill will be voted on tomorrow. It's final form will then be presented to the House of Represntatives for an eventual vote. My boss asked me to call the committe members' offices in our caucus and ask what the expected votes will be for this bill. It turns that support of the bill is split. As a result someone from our office is going to have to campaign to sway some reps into our camp. I look forward to tomorrow in order to see just how successful he was. And while I was relaxing this evening, I got a knock from my floor mentor (more comonly known as the RA.) He is a member of RING which is stands for Respecting Individuals on Neutral Ground. RING is a student group mostly fo

Dreaming of Dying

I don't know about the rest of you but I have recurring dreams of a variety of sorts. Most of them, I have no idea what they represent. But then there are the death dreams. Until last night there were only three senarios and only one where I actually am experiencing the action. The first is dying in a war. The second is dying in a car crash. The third was being stabbed. The first and second happen on a fairly regular basis maybe once every odd year. Also in those two, I'm witnessing it from a third person point of view. The stabbing incident happened only once but unlike the others, I felt it and saw it through my eyes. I was being stabbed multiple times. Everytime the blade went into my body, i felt my muscles around it cramp up. A while after I had that dream, a lady who had been stabbed mulitple times described how it felt to be stabbed. Like in my dream, she said that the muscles around the knife wound cramp up. I have always wondered how real my dream was.

Service Pack 2... Damn you!

Now, I'm not the most tech-savy person in the world. Somewhere on my computer lies the remnants of a virus that still won't allow my Norton firewall to work. But anyways... a while ago i heard that Microsoft was comming out with Service Pack 2 that was supposed to be a major patch for Windows XP. With all these patches, I can actually feel my computer getting heavier and heavier. Time to switch to Apple? Maybe. So the thing got installed today and did two things to piss me off. First, it somehow altered my Windows movie maker. I need that program to rip off streaming music! I hate to download illegaly because I'm too much of a chicken to risk getting sued by the RIAA. Besides, I don't mind that the music is lower quality... as long as I can enjoy it. Now that I've just said that I don't download illegaly anymore... my program that allows me to do so now no longer works. When I started the program, the apparently beefed-up Windows firewall asked me if I wan
