What is your occupation right now? I am an “operations statistician” for a distribution company.
What is your favorite color? Dark Green (and yes, I liked it before I went to MSU)
What are you listening to right now? The Diane Rehm Show (an NPR podcast)
What was the last thing that you ate? Spaghetti and corn-on-the-cob.
Can you drive a stick shift? The simplest answer is no.
Last person you spoke to on the phone? Work phone: a member of inventory control. Cell phone: my sister.
What is your biggest pet peeve? Bad drivers
How old are you today? 28
What is your favorite sport to watch on TV? College football or gymnastics during the summer Olympics.
What is your favorite drink? Coke
Have you ever dyed your hair? No
Favorite food? Lumpia
What is the last movie you watched? In full: The Blind Side. In part: Sunshine
Favorite day of the year? Memorial day for the selfish reason that it’s finally a day off of work since New Years.
How do you vent anger? With a pissy attitude.
What was your favorite toy as a child? Legos

Living arrangements? Alone. Surrounded by mostly old people (which I kinda dig because they’re quiet).

What did you do last night? Heh… should I answer this…? Vomiting in my bed. Not sick. Didn’t drink anything. My best guess is that I tried to drink the rest of the milk that I had before it would get bad. I’m not much of a milk drinker in the first place.

Plain, cheese, or spicy hamburgers? Plain. Wait… how plain because if it’s just a patty with some ketchup and mustard, forget it.

In frustration of losing an extra long blog post to internet oblivion, I have moved on to Plan B – a meme. I’m stealing this from Kacey, my friend on facebook.

Goals: Pay off my credit card, medical, and loan debt. Get into grad school eventually.
Regrets: Should have double majored in college and basically do more that would have helped me find a job.
Relieve Stress: Believe it or not but I meditate.
Hardest thing that I ever dealt with: my sexuality
Your first thought when waking up: Pee. …Yeah pretty much only one until it’s taken care of.
Yesterday: I thought about laundry, cleaning the bathroom, cooking up moo shu pork, and debated whether I should go grocery shopping or hold off.
Today: I thought about eating leftover moo shu pork and whether I should try to do something more with it or just pop it in the microwave. I also contemplated washing my car, going to a family reunion (that would be my father’s mother’s mother’s family) and decided to do neither. Instead I did more laundry, wrote a blog post on a specific instance idiocy the military, their die-hard supporters, and their die-hard haters. Then did this meme because blogger fouled it up and I didn’t want to retype.
Tomorrow: Uhh… I suppose I will be thinking about work…
Your most missed memory: I’d like to remember more about my mother. I used to remember how she sounded but now I don’t. Sometimes, though, a smell will bring back memories of her.

1. What was your FIRST alcoholic drink? Some kind of wine cooler. My mom had her friends over and I wanted a drink of whatever it is they were drinking. I was confused as to why she wouldn’t share like she always did, but I did manage to get a sip and it was a very strong, fruity, and tasty Sprite.
2. Who was your FIRST crush? For a while in fourth grade I was teased about having a crush on a girl named Christina. Turns out that my classmates could read me.
3. Who did you FIRST dance with? I think it was seventh grade with Erin B.
4. Who was your FIRST prom date? Erin (well, official date, anyways…)
5. Do you still talk to your FIRST love? No. I still wonder how he is doing.
6. What was your FIRST job? Slave-boy at K-mart
7. What was your FIRST car? ’89 LeBaron
8. Who was the FIRST person to text you today? Didn’t get one. Although I did get my first email from Erin.

There’s a 25 Random Things [About Me] meme going around on Facebook. I’ve been tagged a few times and I want to do it but I can’t come up with 25 things. It’s been a larger part of this general mood that I’ve been in for the past couple of weeks which is why I haven’t been posting as much either. I’m feeling like a lump poo. I’ve got very little interest in doing anything—even something as making up a blog post or filling out a meme.

Christmas Meme
It's been a while since I did a meme. I got one by email today so I figured, what the hell.
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper. I think there’s something therapeutic about tearing into a gift.
2. Real tree or Artificial? Artificial. I like real trees in other people’s houses.
3. When do you put up the tree? Right after Thanksgiving
4. When do you take the tree down? 12 Days after Christmas or when it’s convenient.
5. Do you like eggnog? In moderate amounts. Any more and I begin to think about what is actually in it.
6. Favorite gift received as a child? Definitely my tub of legos.
7. Hardest person to buy for? How about people? That would be my parents because I never know what the hell they could use.
8. Easiest person to buy for? Myself. [blush]
9. Do you have a nativity scene? I think we do somewhere in storage.
10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Definitely mail. C’mon it’s a special event.
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Clothes that didn’t even fit.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Muppet Christmas Carol
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? One or two weeks before.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Nope but I reserve the right to do so in the future.

17. Favorite Christmas song? Oh Holy Night
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Wherever the family is. Personally, I think the trips to Disney World were more fun.

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? No preference.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? In the morning.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Well it’s not in “this time of year” but when Christmas season starts before Thanksgiving. It’s infuriating when it starts before Halloween.
23. Favorite ornament theme or color? None. I like hodgepodge.
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? As long as it doesn’t have ham… I’m good.

How do you pronounce this?
Fellow blogger John and I were IMing the other day and he asked me why I using some British slang. I told him that I was using it as a more polite way of cussing and because it was useful for a secondary meaning. I bet you are wondering what I said. --I can't say it here! Actually there are a lot things that I borrow when I speak. A lot of what I do borrow is British but that is because there aren't many other English speaking countries to borrow from. No offense to John P., but Paul Hogan and Steve Irwin do not make me want try out words and phrases from down under. Canadian? Apparently I speak like them already. So there you have it.
It's a bit different but I want to try something with the few foreign readers that I have. Take a look at the following list of names. If you would be so kind, record yourself and send me a copy. I'm interesting in hearing y'all trying to pronounce some of the things that are here in Midwest America.

I keep them open. The evil monkey is free to leave whenever he wants.
2. Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotel?
No. My mom does that.

Please. I haven’t “done it” period.
4. Have you ever stolen a street sign before?
I was a good kid. Besides, they aren’t really decorative objects to me.

Yes. You should see my computer at work.
6. Do you cut out coupons but then never use them?
Yes but it’s because the expiration dates come and go before I need to buy the product. $2.00 of Honey Nut Cheerios is great but I’m still working on the box that was purchased a month ago and probably won’t be done with it for another month.

I’ll take the bees. I’m allergic to bears.

Yes. It always looks fake though.

Se7en in 7 Years
Minge tagged me. So here we go with another meme about me.
2007: I consider myself to be an easy going person that has a live and let live view when it comes to other people. I really don’t hate anyone except for two people. One of them fired me for bullshit reasons and I still hold a grudge. I’ll probably hold it tight to my chest until I die. Must be the Irish in me.
2006: Slowly but surely, I am tucking some cash away for a nice vacation that I will go on when I get my first real vacation from my first real job. I’m thinking about climbing Half Dome, rafting down the Grand Canyon, or maybe a trip to some island paradise in the South Pacific.
2005: It took me a while but now that I’ve come to accept some of my most basic identities, I am actually breathing a little easier and smiling a little more. The world seems like it is opening up.
2004: With my first taste of the real world, I realized how those bad decisions in college will now follow me for the rest of my life. But hope is not all lost. I still have something the build upon.

Piece of Cake meme
I know, "another meme?" There's another one on they way. But this one I got from Chad over at Cake or Death? It might give you some small idea on what I think on some issues. Hope that something more interesting happens in my life soon.
1. If you had to choose between being a vegetarian for the rest of your life, or eating nothing but meat the rest of your life, what would you do?
Death please.
2. Do you believe in Global Warming?
Sure but I don’t believe that it is such a life-or-death issue. Depending on how you look at it, the period we live in now is warmer or colder than other periods of Earth’s history. This idea of “normal” climate that we must preserve is ludicrous. It is the abnormal period of warmth between ice ages. Warmer, colder, humans have and will adapt.
3. Republican, Democrat, Independent, Anarchist, Terrorist. . . Which party do you believe in?
Considering there’s really only two parties listed… I would have to say that most of what I believe in falls within the Republican party. Lately, their behavior hasn’t given me much faith in them which is why I will probably be casting a protest vote next year for the Libertarian candidates.
4. Pro-Life or Pro-Choice?
When it comes down to it. It would fall under pro-choice. However, I would say choose life. I recognize that there are situations where a woman would have a very good reason to abort. Self-harm, incest, and rape. Like many others, I don’t like how people are willing to use abortion as a means of birth control. I would hope that people put the welfare of an unborn child over the need to correct a mistake.
5. Would you date/marry someone of a different race? Would you adopt a child of a different race?
Yes. I don’t really have a choice in the matter. There are very few like me.
6. Yankees or Red Sox?
Yuck. Baseball. Neither. But the closest team that I would come to being a fan of would be the Cubs.
7. Do you think same-sex unions should be legalized?
Yes. Call it marriage or civil unions, or whatever. Going further, I don't believe this is a state issue. Given that citizens are supposed to be free to move about the country with a minimum of fuss, I think that having states recognizing marriage contracts and states that don't is impractical.
8. Stem Cell Research. . . Aye or Nay?
Yes. It's not necessary to create embryos to harvest stem cells, however.

Yes.
10. Do you think the U.S. should make English its official language?
Tell you what. I'll give you English if I can have the old national motto back.

There's a lot of reasons why people are on the streets. Many of them made bad decisions and continue to do so. If you don't believe me, ask anyone who works at a shelter. I have given a homeless person money before but it's not often that I run into them where I live, work and hang. And no, I wouldn't support euthanizing them. What kind of a question is that?

I don't think that abuse is okay and I wouldn't tolerate it being done to me.

No. Serving any interests that a conspiracy nut could come up with would easily be debunked by showing it would have been easier for the government to go with another plan.

Our prisons don't work because they aren't allowed to work. Before you get all jumpy consider the work programs that are always gutted. These programs would allow inmates to learn skills that could get them into the workforce once they are released. But people then start complaining that by making prisoners work and earn their keep is virtually slave labor and is unfair competition in the work force. Cry me a fucking river. The best we can get out of our prisoners is stamping license plates? C'mon. They deserve better and so do we. And the answer to the question is maybe if I'm desperate.

Top 20 Movies for me
I’ve been tagged by Minge to make a post about my Top 20 movies. I won’t attempt to do them in any particular order though.
Bend It Like Beckham
I had heard of this movie when it came out but I didn’t give it much attention until I was in the Philippines and John wanted to see it. So we went through the markets looking for a pirated copy. Hell, when we went to Manila I even looked for a legitimate copy. I never did find one and I never did see the movie until it came on MSU’s campus movie station. I then wrote to John and told him that he should see it.
This movie is one of my favorites because it touches on family issues that are very close to me. Familial expectations and pressures. A mother that seems insufferable. A sister who is another social circle. Racial and sexuality issues. It’s all there.
Bridget Jones’s Diary
Oh this plays to my fears of winding up as a spinster who will eventually be eaten by wild dogs. Take out the smoking the drinking, and I’m practically her.
Contact
Many people complained about this movie being too long and boring. I think it was a character on South Park that said something to the effect of having to sit through two hours only to find out that the alien was her dead father. Personally, I take this movie to provide a look at my own faith. That is, having it isn’t necessarily at odds with the universe. I don’t have the answers and neither does anyone else. I also love the “waste of space” line and I often use it whenever a conversation about life in outer space comes up.
E.T. the Extra Terrestrial
E.T. was probably the movie that got me interested in Sci-fi. It is also the only movie that I ever cried to. I used to wish that I could have my own alien just like Eliot. I’m glad to have the original version of the movie. I didn’t care for the enhanced version.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Ferris Bueller is my hero. This is arguably my favorite movie. What’s more cool than cutting school and enjoying life?
Finding Nemo
A lot of little things came together to make this one of my favorites. The music, Marlin’s behavior, Ellen Degeneres’s performance, the accents, and excellent environments for comedy.
Flight of the Navigator
I was living in Florida when this came out so I felt like this was happening in my own back yard. If I was David (well, the David in the movie), I would have convinced Max to go on some adventures. I’d be flying all over the world with that spaceship as well as visiting some of the planets in the solar system before going back home. Also, toying with the various governments with my flights would be an added bonus.
Gattaca
I find the human eugenics to be fascinating. When is it permissible? When does it become unethical? Also the theme of overcoming perceived limitations is inspiring.
Gladiator
Ancient Rome fascinates me so I will try and give any movie that deals with the period a chance. I almost didn’t watch this one because I had heard so many bad reviews but I’m glad I did. It had the right amounts of story and violence. It was also the first period film that made me feel like the sets were real.
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings
The trilogy by itself, is superb but I think that the first movie in the way it was presented and paced was superior than the other two.
The Muppet Christmas Carol
Any Christmas would be incomplete without watching the Muppets and their version of A Christmas Carol. In fact, I place this movie version above all others much to my dad’s confusion.
Office Space
I wish I had the ability to not give a shit. I never truly appreciated working for such a bad company and such a bad person since taking the job at the candy store. But even before then, I liked it because I could feel the frustration that most people have with their jobs and liked that someone was reacting to it in a way I wish I could.
Rudy
Oh, this movie is so good that it hurts. I can barely watch as Rudy gets beaten down yet he keeps going back for more. “He’s so little!”
Saving Private Ryan
I’m a military nut so while I expect this movie to have its fair share of duty, honor, loyalty and such, brining the idea of saving one person makes this movie go beyond that. Is one man’s life worth the sacrifice?
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Kudos to II and IV, but I think that this movie is the best out of the entire line. The commentary on the end of the Cold War, and what I think is a more realistic tone, is what sets this movie apart. The crew farewell was excellent as well.
Star Wars The Return of the Jedi
Like the LOTR trilogy, I like all three original Star Wars movies but I think The Return of the Jedi was the superior film. It tied up the story nicely. The thing that put it over A New Hope was that I felt the characters had matured and possessed more depth.
The Hunt for Red October
This fits in well with my love for political science. Politics, power play, ideology, game theory, prisoner’s dilemma. Excellent stuff.
The Sound of Music
I don’t know, I like the music. It’s something that I remember from my childhood and I just enjoy it.
To Kill a Mockingbird
It appeals to my sense of justice and morality but it also reminds me to keep a very realist perspective because despite how idealistic I can be, the world does not have the same interests as mine.
Honorable Mention: Beauty and the Beast, Hannibal, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Parent Trap, and An American Tail.

What? An Essay?
Tagged once again.
What is the earliest memory you have as a child? Think far back.
I’m not sure if it was the earliest because I have a few from this time period but I had to be close to three or so. But I was on the balcony of the apartment complex that I lived at when my dad was stationed at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada. We lived on the second floor or maybe the third. I remember climbing on to a chair which required a lot of effort. The chair was up against the railing and on the chair I could look over the edge. And I remember looking down before either my dad or my mom pulled me back.
What is a special memory you have about someone? It could be a grand parent, family friend, - not including your parents – that you knew as a child. What do you recall about them that makes the memory special?
The neighbor lady that lived a few doors down when I was in Idaho. It was Halloween and I was eager to get as much candy as I possibly could. Towards the end, I wanted to go to this house but my Dad said that they weren’t giving out candy. I thought it was ridiculous. Why wouldn’t anyone want to give out candy? But he said that because they didn’t have their light on, they didn’t celebrate it. He let me go up to the house though and I came face to my face with my kindly neighbor and said, “trick or treat.” In the kind demeanor that she always had, she said, “Sorry but we don’t celebrate Halloween.”
It was probably the first time that I realized that someone that I liked was different than I was. And while I didn’t get any candy from her, she was always the nice neighbor lady to me. It was also the beginning of when my dad would let me start making my own choices and having to deal with the consequences. I look back on it as a lesson of life type of thing.
What was a favorite game you played as a child?
Scram ball. It worked like this: There was a cube ball with each side of it a different colors. There were also six corresponding bands that players wore. If six people were playing they would get one colored band each. If three people were playing they would be assigned two colors. So the group of 3-6 players would gather together. A person holding the ball would throw the ball up. It would land and the person whose color was on top had to get the ball. Meanwhile the rest would run away from the ball. Once the person grabbed the ball, s/he would say, “stop!” The rest would stop in their tracks and they could not move their feet. The person with ball would then try to hit one of the other players with the ball after taking four steps in the direction of his/her target.
What was a memorable trip that you can recall being a little kid and what did you do that makes you think about it even now?
For my birthday when I was in second grade, my dad took me and my sister to Disneyland (that's the one in California). It was a long trip from Idaho but I got to go through mountains and deserts. We had to drive through this mountain pass that was ice and snow covered and made me want to pee my pants when I looked over the edge. We tried Jack ‘n the Box burgers to test our fate with E. coli.
What makes me think about it now? Well, it was really the only vacation I remember taking as a little kid.

Yeah, it's you.
Luke had an interesting post that I had to copy. Write something about someone. I don't know if it was the original intent but as Luke had also observed, it turns into a kind of Post Secret type of post.
You are my star, my guiding light. Where you go, I have no shame following.
You continuously make wrong choices that hurt those around you. As much as I want to give you up, I can’t. I love you.
I used to think I was superior to you. You have humbled me. I now look up to you and realize that you were a success all along.
You were the first to befriend me. For that, I will always be grateful. Now, when I think of you, I think, “Where did I go wrong?” Just like that song. I used to wonder if I could have done anything that would have helped you. The answer is no.
I thought you and I were friends in high school. When I saw you last summer, you barely said anything to me. What a shame, I had so much I wanted to talk to you about. I’d rather talk to your brother now.
You reminded me so much of myself yet you were also so different. I fell so hard for you. I think you’re lying.
You deserve an apology but I don’t think that you’ll hear it from my mouth. I don’t have the courage to face you.
You were the best mentor I ever had. If you hadn’t had taken me to that meeting I may not have come out. Thank you and I’m sorry that I offended you.

I've seen this particular meme on four other sites that I view. Might as well jump on the bandwagon even though no one tagged me. (ahem)

He was back in Iowa for a wedding, I think. He also told me that he was straight.
47. How far back do you know about your ancestry?
Grandparents only. But I do know that my maternal family were wealthy landowners until the Japanese invasion. Family legend has us being descended from some royal family in Sweden, Norway, or some place around there.

Black suit. Loan interview.

No.
