Crumbs

My friend Erin just gave birth to a son named Noah. Well, I guess I won’t be visiting her for the next… eight years. It’s a bit late commenting on this but oh well. MSU won against Louisville and are now in the Final Four. As ashamed as I am to admit this but I thought Louisville was going to have their way with us but the Spartans kept their pressure on and finally broke them in the second half. It was very satisfying. They are on to Detroit to play Connecticut. How do you tell your boss that it can’t be done? I compile a report that is used for the company billing and it takes me about 4 days to do if I am allowed to concentrate on it. Boss 1 of 5 sent me a message asking if I can have it ready by Wednesday. I told her that Thursday was more realistic. So I’ve got to put on my miracle worker hat and find a way to speed up the process. Snow? Again? Yuck.

Two Bits, Four Bits, Six Bits, a Dollar…

Just got done watching the MSU-Kansas game. After being led for most of the game, the Spartans managed to make a win in the end (67-62), making it to the Elite 8. Next game is on Sunday against Louisville. Let’s hope for an upset! I think I’ve given enough blood for now. (Really, I hate having to hop in and out of the hospital.) I’m a big fan of Arby’s and their roast beef sandwiches. They recently came out with the Roastburgers, an alternative to regular burgers found at other fast food chains. Nice idea but I’ve discovered that they are messy as hell and should not be sold on the drive-thru. After a number of months, the company hired a few full-time associates. They’ve also brought in temps for the first time since last summer. That’s gotta be good news, right? Boss 3 of 5 asked Boss 2 of 5 what it is exactly I do. Boss 2 of 5 didn’t know. I think that Boss 1 of 5 is the only one who knows what I do but I doubt she knows the details. So 3 of 5 is making me write a memo de

Privacy? What Privacy?

Image
You tell ‘em Stuart! Err… at least until 1:26. A series of news articles from the UK has shaking my head in wonderment. Google recently made Street View available which has caused a privacy outcry. Driving around the country and taking pictures is an invasion of privacy and people are demanding that Google take this service down. Then there is another set of articles saying that the UK government is going to start snooping around social networking sites like facebook and Bebo. Keep in mind that this is the same government that installs CCTV cameras and actively keeps watch of public spaces. Anyone ever heard of TV detector vans? Yeah… So it’s amazing to me how pictures taken in the public sphere where, at least in American law, no one has an expectation of privacy, can be met with resistance. People take pictures in public spaces and post them on the internet all the time. Google just makes it more accessible to access those images.

Who wants to sign my cast?

Wow. I think I might be changing my view on nationalized health care because let me tell you, this private insurance that I have is a pain in my big ass. It’s confusing to me as to why the hospital I received surgery at is in-network yet the doctor who performed that surgery is out-of-network. If nationalized health care meant that I can go into a hospital or clinic, get treated, and get out then I would be all over it but I’m not holding my breath on that one. Oh, nationalized health care could happen with President Obama leading the way but the easy part—I’m not holding my breath on that. I went to my follow up appointment and my leg looks so nasty. They took out the metal bits, made some new x-rays. I got to see the damage and it looks pretty ugly. The lower parts of my tibia and fibula look all splintered going down to my ankle. I also got see the plates and the screws holding them in place. I’m beginning to feel like the bionic man. The session wrapped up with a new cast

BSG Finale Could Have Been Better

Image
I have now entered into 30 days of mourning as Battlestar Galactica has come to an end. The finale was broadcasted this past Friday. If you haven’t seen it, I warn you now this post contains spoilers ! I believe that this series has been one of the best written and executed shows I have ever seen. Maybe the bar was set too high but I found the finale to be, on the whole, disappointing. The way I saw it, the ending of the series came down to these possibilities: They get to Earth. -Where they establish/contribute to our civilization by integrating with the 13th Tribe. -Where they find Earth (and our civilization) destroyed. They don’t get to Earth. -They die out. -They find another habitable planet to settle on. -The series ends open ended. What ultimately happened was that that they do make it to Earth where they find primitive humans. They also marvel how improbable that a separate species of human (that were reproductively compatible with them) had evolved on an alien planet. Instea

Happy St. Patrick's Day

My head is coming down from the clouds as I try to cut back on my pain meds. Still, my swollen foot with purple... nastiness keeps me going back for more. So yes, I'm taking just enough to take the edge off. I'm trying as hard as I can to keep up with work and I generally come home exhausted. I end up taking a nap before dinner, and watch some TV until 9 which is when I go to bed. I wake up a lot in the middle of the night so I've had to extend my bed time. I'm a side or stomach sleeper and trying to do it on my back with a leg propped up is frustrating. When I finally can go out on the town, I'm going to celebrate with a nice not-cooked-at-home dinner. I'm thinking lobster and steak. [drools]. Anyone who wants to join let me know. Rollerblading to follow dinner. j/k

Firsts

Something I stole from Stacey on Facebook: 1. What was your FIRST alcoholic drink? Some kind of wine cooler. My mom had her friends over and I wanted a drink of whatever it is they were drinking. I was confused as to why she wouldn’t share like she always did, but I did manage to get a sip and it was a very strong, fruity, and tasty Sprite. 2. Who was your FIRST crush? For a while in fourth grade I was teased about having a crush on a girl named Christina. Turns out that my classmates could read me. 3. Who did you FIRST dance with? I think it was seventh grade with Erin B. 4. Who was your FIRST prom date? Erin (well, official date, anyways…) 5. Do you still talk to your FIRST love? No. I still wonder how he is doing. 6. What was your FIRST job? Slave-boy at K-mart 7. What was your FIRST car? ’89 LeBaron 8. Who was the FIRST person to text you today? Didn’t get one. Although I did get my first email from Erin. 9. Who is the FIRST person you thought of this morning? My mom. 10. Who

Last Sunday, I went to a roller skating birthday party for my friend Carrie. I haven’t gone roller skating since I was in junior high. Between then and now, however, I have gone rollerblading which I find easier. Now that I look back on it, I probably should have chosen blades than skates but at the time I figured, when in Rome… When I get out on the floor, I remembered that I had my cell on me and I knew from past experience that I was going to fall at least once that night and I didn’t want to land on the phone. So I exited at the first gate I could so that I could hand it over to Erin (who can’t skate because she was pregnant). I was getting on the rough spot when I fell backwards. Instead of my left foot rolling out and away from my body, it rolled under causing my lower leg to snap. I heard a crack in and saw my leg bend in an unnatural way. I must have blocked the pain because although I was still feeling the pain, it wasn’t to the point where I was screaming in agony. I
