The non-date.

Yesterday it was dinner and a movie with Season. I had an unexpected day off from work so instead of lounging around with the ‘rents, I wanted to go out. I called up Season to see if she wanted to go get some drink and/or go to the beach. Plans were nixed and instead we settled on just going out for dinner. I was feeling in the mood for Italian and I haven’t been to the Olive Garden in a couple years. It’s a bit pricey but hell, I had a little extra money and I wanted to treat Season who helped me get that internship. It was nice, pleasant conversation about friends and a smidge about politics. (You know, I think she might be a closet Republican.)

On our way back to Michigan, I asked her to call the Ready and get the times for Charlie and Chocolate Factory. Season had mentioned that she wanted to see it a few weeks ago. She still had not seen it, and I admit, that I was curious after seeing it reviewed on a few blogs.

Patrick (the blogger formerly known as Crash) had this up on his site. He in turn got it from See Kyle Draw. I wanted to share it as well.

I really hesitate to make a comparison to the original movie. Although both movies follow along the same line… they are just different. Alternative is what comes to mind. Director Tim Burton had to inject his dark view of the world. It seemed like a dead world. The story takes place in winter and the only hint of life was in the factory “garden.” But even there, it had its own dark and cramped feel. That was probably my biggest problem with it. Other than that, I enjoyed the movie… but not to the point where I would want to see it again.

The biggest departure from the original movie was the ending. I won’t ruin it for anyone who may have not seen it. However, it was those scenes that really made me think that I was watching something totally different.
