A Blue State Going Red in the Face

With Michigan moving up its primary to January 15th, New Hampshire is moving to their January 22nd primary date so that it is still ahead of Michigan and that it remains first in the nation. Because of breaking DNC* rules, the DNC has threatened to strip Michigan of her delegates at the national convention. Four of the Democratic candidates have decided not to participate in Michigan's primary. Senators Barak Obama, John Edwards, and Gov. Bill Richardson have contacted the Michigan Secretary of State office to have their names removed from the ballot. Sen. Joe Biden has said that he would bypass (whatever that means) the state's primary. In addition, all Democratic candidates have pledged not to campaign in the state.

Democrats are screwed in Michigan.

So if you live in Michigan, the only real candidate that is going to appear on your ballot is Hillary Clinton. If you are a Hillary supporter you might think this is excellent because Sen. Clinton is going to have Michigan's support at the convention. Ha ha not so fast. If the DNC makes good on its threat Michigan won't even be represented at the convention and your vote is useless. Also, if none of the candidates are going to have Michigan's convention votes, and if none are going to campaign in the state, why should they care about Michigan voters and their issues?

**If you need a fast and free explanation...
The primary is where the citizens in a particular state will vote on who they want to be their party's candidate. Registered Democrats will vote for who they want the Democratic candidate to be. Registered Republicans will vote on who they want the Republican candidate to be.

The states will then send their delegates to the national conventions which are held by both parties. The delegates will then voice their state's preference for what candidate will be represent the party. This will reduce the various candidates to one. One for the Republicans and one for the Democrats.

The Republican and Democratic candidates will then square off against each other running up to the November election.
