Should I See It?

There a few books that I remember when I was a kid but some stand out in my mind such as Shiloh, A Wrinkle In Time, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Indian in the Cupboard, and Bridge to Terabithia.

I was at the movies last night watching Epic Movie. (Don’t see it. It sucks.) I haven’t been to the theater since Casino Royale and really haven’t been paying attention to the upcoming releases. Wonderland has a wall of posters advertising what future movies will be coming. One of them was Bridge to Terabithia.

Bridge to Terabithia and Where the Red Fern Grows carries a special place in my heart. I absolutely love the books. However, as much as I love them, I avoid them. I’ve got copies of all the other books that I mentioned, but not those two. They were the two books that almost brought me to tears in class. If something is powerful enough to tug at my emotions like that, I brand it dangerous and do my best to bury it. I wonder if an author would take it as a compliment if I went up to him or her and said, “Your story was so great, I can’t bear to read it again.”

If I do see Bridge to Terabithia, I’ll let you know. And maybe you’ll find out if it becomes the second movie that I actually wept to. Any guesses as to what the first one was?

I'd say...Crying is only bad if you can't stop doing it.

The same for laughing, probably.

Go and read the books and tell us how they made you feel. Especially if they affect you differently now from the way they affected you years ago.

But hey, what do I know. I've never cried at a book. Thrown a few at the wall in anger a few times. Laughed at the wrong bits of a few. But not cried.

Jed is refusing to see it because he did cry. He read it during 3rd grade and once he figured out what the ending would be he put the book down and refused to finish. He eventually finished it for school but everytime the preview comes on he changes the channel.

My 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Demske read us The Bridge to Terabithia and I remember her crying as well. She said she did everytime. I'm planning on seeing it, even if it will make me cry. It can feel good to cry, especially at something like a book or a movie.

Aww, c'mon. No guesses yet?

@kapitano: I am thinking about going to the library and reading the book again. But I don't know if I'll be able to fit in those chairs they provide.

@Laurie: I feel Jed's pain.

When I see the previews, I am always saying to myself, "I don't remember that in the book."

@Kris: Make sure you tell me when you see it but don't tell me anything more until I decide whether or not I see it.

So, I saw it over the weekend and I thought it was brilliant! I fell in love with the girl's character, which only led me to bawl my eyes out. I was still sobbing in the car ^^'
